Camping Time!

Monday, September, 29, 2014

Hello everyone! ?This is Anand as always with the Awesome English blog! As always, I hope you had a good weekend, and as always, mine was great. This time I took a trip to Otaki and enjoyed a little camping with some good friends. ?Every year me and some former ALTs get together and head to Kenmin no Mori in the town of Otaki, right in the middle of Chiba prefecture. ?We have some laughs, barbecue some good food and then start drinking! On this note I have some sad news…I have made myself quit beer! Unfortunately with the Aqua Line marathon coming up and me having done no training, I think that the only way I will survive it is if I at least maintain a decent diet. But even without the sweet taste of alcohol it was a great chance to meet some of my old friends and some of the new ALTs in the Chiba area. And while beer always makes camping better, there are always marshmallows and a bonfire which make things almost as good. ?I am looking forward to next year, because it keeps getting better and better!

Until next time,

Anand

First Sports Day Finished!

Monday, September, 22, 2014

Hello everyone, this is Anand as always! ?Let me tell you, it has been a crazy few days because I have been working on my preschool’s very first Sports Day. ?Our school is only two years old, so we have had to work extra hard getting things set up. ?But finally, thanks to a lot of help from my co-workers and from our kids our first Sports Day was a resounding success! ?I will admit there were a few mistakes here and there in the execution, and I might have forgotten my lines a couple of times, but in the end everyone had a good time and people went home happy. ?Our kids had to do a little dialogue in English and they absolutely nailed that too! ?I was incredibly proud of them to be honest. ?And even more so I am incredibly proud of my team. ?We all worked together to make the day as good as it could be. ?However, now I am just enjoying this time – the longest time between this sports day and the next one, where we do it all again…

See you next time,

Anand Mohan

O-Matsuri!

Tuesday, September, 16, 2014

Hello everyone, this is Anand here with another update as always.? I hope you have made the most of your 3 day weekend.? I definitely tried to make the most of mine with a trip by to my old home of Katsuura.? They have a very nice summer festival every year where everyone in the community takes part.? It’s a great chance for me to see my students and to see everyone I know cutting loose and having a good time.? I often feel sorry for all of the large men and boys who have to do all the carrying of the mikkoshi and pushing of the dashi.? It seems us little guys have it better for once!??

I love the whole process of going back to Katsuura.? It’s a 2.5 hour trip there but it’s one of the rare times when no one can distract me and I can get some reading/studying done.? This time I listened to an audiobook about the rise of the Nazis, but that is getting a little off topic .?
In Katsuura I saw old students, visited old shops, watched some great performances and drank lots of beer.? I love Yokohama, but it’s nice to go back to such a laid back, relaxing place.?

Until next time,?
Anand

Presents for Teacher!

Monday, September, 08, 2014

Hello everyone, this is Anand here with your update as always. As always, my life is busy with reports, preparations and a lot of running around. And occasionally I even teach! We have ?a Sports Day coming at our preschool and with it being our very first one there is a lot of planning to do. Not only that, we re expanding our preschool into Tokyo, and with that there are even more preparations for me to be on top of. I am learning lots of new things, and in a way it is very exciting. However, my favorite thing to do on top of all the extra duties is still teaching. I have been a teacher for about 7 years now and I have had some of the busiest days of my life. I have often wanted to quit/fly away/disappear from the job because, as you might know, it is stressful work! However, it is some of the most rewarding work a person can do, because even though students can be difficult and frustrating, they are capable of giving you real, tangible gratitude and that makes all of the work worth it. Just recently, I was have a stressful, miserable day and one of my students gave me a very sweet letter. It makes a difficult job a piece of cake.

A Short Trip

Monday, September, 01, 2014

Hello everyone! ?Hope you guys have been having a good time whatever it is you do. ?Recently I got the chance to take a short trip with my workmates to Hokkaido for a little rest and relaxation. ?While I have been to Hokkaido a total of four times now, this time was special since it is the only time I have gone in the summer. ?I love Hokkaido because it is as close as you can get to being in Canada without having to fly across the world. ?The roads are straighter, the air is colder and the fields are wider, just like Canada but it still retains that Japanese feel. ?We actually only went for a weekend, but we managed not only to eat tons of food, but we also got to go to Otaru, Furano, Biei and Sapporo (of course). ?Not only that, I got to try river rafting for the first time ever. ?It was lots of fun and I can’t wait to try it again. ?In fact, I am sure that now I will end up going to Hokkaido a fifth and sixth time without a doubt!

And of course I will give you some updates when that happens!

Until next time!
