A taste of the US came to Japan
Thursday, August, 27, 2015
Hey all, Jordan here with another Awesome English report. Last weekend was a good one in that I received a package from the US containing all sorts of food and goodies.
One thing that’s available, but very pricey in Japan is peanut butter. I’m not too fond of the brands, so I got Jif imported in a very large size. In addition to that, I got some Welch’s grape jelly. In the US, we like to combine the two and make a sandwich simple called peanut butter and jelly or PBJ. I made several already.
Japan has tasty stuff, but sometimes one longs for the taste of things back home and now I’m able to do it. If only Japan had Sunbeam bread though…

Fun around Kanayama Station
Thursday, August, 20, 2015
Hey all, Jordan here with another Awesome English report. I had time to go out this weekend and I headed over to Kanayama for a change. In Nagoya, the biggest station is naturally Nagoya Station, but there’s a second one that’s called Kanayama in the south that many trains stop at. It’s fairly busy and drops people near a busy part of the town.
Anyway, outside of the station are lots of places to go shopping as well as restaurants. On this particular day, there was some kind of performance going on. It looked like high school students. A fair amount of people were watching.
It’s definitely a fun alternative to Nagoya Station. Check out the area if you come to Nagoya.

A trip to the movies
Thursday, August, 13, 2015
Hey all, Jordan here with another Awesome English report. I don’t typically see a lot of movies in the theaters anymore. Usually it’s expensive and there aren’t a whole lot of things I really want to see, but this summer I was curious about the new Jurassic World, which is part of the Jurassic Park franchise. I liked the first one, so I was curious what the new one would be like.
I was surprised that the theater was packed. There were literally 6 seats only and they were all in the front row. I also tried looking at some Japanese subtitles while watching to see how they interpret some stuff. It’s pretty different a lot of the time, but the general idea is there.
I have to say it was pretty average. Not bad, but nothing that really stood out to me. I won’t give any spoilers. Some parts had some good action, but a lot of the story wasn’t really believable.
I say stick to the original movie. I think it was better-done.

Hot times are here
Thursday, August, 06, 2015
Hello everyone, this is Jordan with my first Awesome English report.? Lately it’s been hot and enjoying the outdoors is pretty tough during this time of the year.? It makes me long for the cooler times.? Where I come from, it’s very cold in the winter, but in Nagoya it’s not as cold.? April and May are when it starts to feel comfortable.? No need for heating or air conditioner (usually).
I felt it would be fun to share an older photo I took this year here in Nagoya.? I was able to go to see cherry blossoms at night (yozakura) along a river here in town.? It was a very lovely place and I enjoyed seeing the trees.? We don’t have such trees in the US and trees aren’t really held in such high regard as they are in Japan.? Kind of a shame.
Anyway, we must endure the hot summer for at least 2 more months.? Hopefully the scenery of cherry blossoms at night reminds you of cooler times.? Unfortunately, they won’t make it cooler.
