My New Gym!

Monday, May, 27, 2013

Hi there, Anand here as always! ? As you know, I spend most of my free time reading or exercising. ?Recently I decided to switch gyms. ?When I was walking home one day, I noticed a new functional training gym. ?Most gyms aren’t really functional training gyms. ?In Japan, they are more like spas. ?That means that there are a lot of machines, nice showers and a nice bath. ?But when I go there the people aren’t that serious about exercise. ?And the few people who are serious mostly do bodybuilding exercises. ?But at my new gym people focus and becoming stronger and developing a higher level of fitness. ?This is my goal too. ?I don’t care much about muscles, but I want to be a better athlete. ?What is more, the trainers are very knowledgeable and friendly. ?These are the things that are important to me.

If you are wondering, the place I go is the Real Fit Gym, right new Yokohama Station’s Southwest Exit. ?They have a free trial if you like their facebook page, so I suggest you try it out!

I am sure you will enjoy it!

But even if my gym isn’t the right one for you, make sure you get out and exercise before it gets too hot!!

Good Times Camping

Wednesday, May, 22, 2013

Hello everyone, Anand here with the Awesome English update! ? Thankfully it has warmed up enough that I was able to get in some camping for the year! ?I took another trip down to Chiba to a town called Otaki. ?There isn’t much there besides rice fields and a castle, but it’s very beautiful this time of the year. ?Unfortunately, it isn’t accessible via the JR line. ?To get there there are basically two ways. ?You can ?ride an independent line called the Isumi Tetsudo, which is a slow, expensive train with one car. ? I took the better way, which is going by car.

I stayed in Otaki from Saturday to Sunday. ?There were about thirty English teachers there – people I had met before, and some new faces. ? There are new faces every year, so it’s always a good time to meet new people, which I did quite a bit. ?We all sat around a bonfire, eating marshmallows and yakisoba and drinking some good beer. ?And the best thing of all? I was cheap! ?Only 2700 yen for the food and the cabin! ?It was a great time and I will definitely do it again next year. ?Here is a group picture of me and my friends.

Until next time,

Anand

Cafe Jumping

Monday, May, 13, 2013

Hi there everyone, Anand from Awesome English as always! ?I think summer has definitely started to show its face around Japan. ?It is crazy warm here! ?On the other hand, it snowed in my hometown last weekend. ?It’s May! ?This is silly!

But thankfully I am here and not there. ?On super nice weekends like the last one I like to hop around Yokohama and check out some nice cafes. ?Thankfully, Yokohama has plenty to choose from, and they are thankfully not all Starbucks. ?This week I went to a few around my home. ?I would tell you all of the ones I went to, but I will just mention one, or else everyone will find out where I live!

I dropped by Cimolo Cafe, a little spot right by my apartment and about a 10 minute walk from Yokohama station. ?It’s pretty easy to miss and hidden around a corner, but that is why I like it. ?It isn’t crowded and it is nice and quiet. ?After teaching all day, quite often I just want to sit in a quiet area and read a book or do a little studying for myself.

There is another reason I like this place by the way. ?They have a decent selection of beer! ?There is nothing quite like sitting in a Japanese cafe and enjoying my weekend with a beer in one hand and a book in the other.

Where do you guys like to relax?

Happy Golden Week!

Tuesday, May, 07, 2013

Hi there everyone, sorry for being a day late, but it is me as usual. ?You can probably guess my reason for being late, of course…I was on holiday. ?In fact, I am still on holiday, since my Tuesday is my regular day off. ?In any case, I hope you all enjoyed yourself. ?The weather was certainly amazing. ?I hope you all made the most of it.

I didn’t go anywhere special (because it’s too expensive!) but I did go around Tokyo and Yokohama quite a bit. ?A couple of friends came over from Chiba to visit me, so I took them around bars in Yokohama. ?It turns out that there are lots of great places to get beer in this city! ?We went to a few bars and got some great craft beers. ?It was a nice change from all the Asahi Super Dry (although that is also a fine beer). ?And the next day, just as my friends were leaving, we found a beer festival at the Red Brick Warehouse. ?More beer! ?I actually didn’t want to spend 1200 yen on a Belgian beer at that point, so I settled for something from the Yokohama Brewery. ?Turns out that their Wiezen is actually pretty tasty too. ?It’s taken me a while, but I am learning to appreciate some of the finer points of Yokohama.

But of course, I couldn’t spend ALL of my time around here. ?I made it out to Yoyogi Park to catch some of the Cinco de Mayo festival. ?Now the music was great, and the beer (yes, more beer) was great too! ?But this time, the best part of all was the food! ?Lots of great Mexican and Brazilian food everywhere!

This is just a taste of what I did during Golden Week, but rest assured it was lots of fun. ?The only sad part is that it’s a looooooong time until I will get another holiday like it.

Oh well, back to work tomorrow!
