Happy Birthday to Me!
Monday, July, 29, 2013
Hello everyone, hope you are surviving the summer. ?While it isn’t sunny today, it certainly is hot and humid. ?It’s like experiencing all of the bad of the summer without any of the good stuff. ?But there is one (kind of) positive thing about this day. ?July 29th is my birthday! ?Yes, I am getting even older. ?This year is the big thirty. ?My twenties are over. ?It makes a person stop and thing what they have done for the last 10 years. ?I spent 4 years out of my twenties in university, and almost 6 years in Japan. ?It’s really hard to believe that I have spent 20% of my life in Japan. ?That’s a pretty high number in my opinion. ?But they have been six of the best years of my life, despite some difficulties along the way. ?When I turned 20 I never thought I would be where I am now. ?I would have never seen myself teaching people on the other side of the world, and I would never have imagined spending so much time speaking another language. ?I think that is a pretty great thing. ?I am in better shape and I am a better person than when I entered my twenties, and I am sure part of the reason having met such great people here and in university. ?My twenties are over, but I can remember most of the good times, and some of my memories are so unique that I will cherish them forever. ?I just hope I don’t start losing my hair.
Happy birthday to me,
Anand

Making Some Cup Noodles!
Monday, July, 22, 2013
He there everyone! ?Anand here as always. ?This weekend I only had Sunday off, but I definitely made the most of it! ?I have been living in Yokohama for almost a year now, but there is a lot of things I haven’t done yet. ?Well I can finally say I experienced one of the big attractions of Yokohama. ?I went to the Cup Noodle Museum in Minatomirai. ?It’s an interesting place! ?I, like tons of people, tried my hand at making my own custom cup noodle. ?Mine was very Western to say the least. ?It was made with tomatoes, garlic, sausages and some kind of pork. ?I hope it is as delicious as it sounds. ?It’s funny that it took so long to go there, but I am glad I eventually did. ?The story of Momofuku Ando, the inventor of instant ramen, is actually pretty interesting and inspiring. ?He invented instant noodles when he was almost fifty, and turned it into a worldwide phenomenon. ?That takes a lot of drive, I think. ?I wonder if I will ever be able to do such a thing. ?I guess the whole point is not to wonder, but to make it happen. ?In any case, here is a picture of my grand creation. ?As for why there are two cup noodles in the picture…
Well, that’s my secret.
Until next time,
Anand

Another Beach Party
Monday, July, 15, 2013
Hi guys, I hope you all enjoyed the long weekend! ?I know I sure did. ?I can imagine that by now you have figured out that I basically do the same set of things every week. ?I run, I study and I go to the beach. ?Well this week being Umi no Hi, I went to the beach. ?I went to one of my favorite beaches in Japan, Onjuku beach. ?It’s got a lot to offer the beach lover. ?Clean beaches, nice waves, good sand and, well, lots of pretty girls to look at. ?In addition, in my case there are lots of good friends too. ?A lot of my friends live in the area, and I jump at the chance to meet them again. ?So we grabbed pizza, sat in the sand, got a tan (yes, even I can tan), and played a little frisbee. ?No, nothing special I will admit, but it was plenty of fun. ?The only part I don’t like about having such a good time is that is has to end. But I suppose if every day was a great time, it wouldn’t be as special. ?Here is a picture of me meditating in the sun (well it was a little cloudy).

Kanji at the cafe
Monday, July, 08, 2013
Hi there everyone, hope you are doing well. ?For the first time in a looooong time I had a full weekend off! ?So what do you think I did with my time? ?A trip? ?Hanging out with friends? ?Cruising for chicks? ?If you think I did any of those things, well, you don’t realize how boring of a man I am. ?No, instead I went around with my kanji notebooks, my pen and an empty stomach and hopped from cafe to cafe. Yokohama is chock full of great places to sit down and relax and nothing pleases me more than to do so. ?So with a cold beer in one hand and a pen in the other, I got to work at a cafe near my work called Bench. ?I like studying kanji because studying is very simple. ?You just write a kanji over and over until you commit it to memory. ?Although my study method has evolved slightly over the years thanks to flashcard applications like Anki, this basically hasn’t changed in 5 years. ?Some people hate it, but I find it relaxing myself. ?In fact, I think I could do it all day if I had the time.
In fact, I had the time this weekend, and that is basically what I did.
Take a look, how’s my kanji?

Italian food in Roppongi
Monday, July, 01, 2013
Hello everyone, Anand here as always. ?Hope you are living the good life. ?I have been sick for the past few days and have pretty much lost my voice, but that didn’t stop me from enjoying the weekend. ?After work on Saturday, I headed straight home, changed clothes and made my way straight to Roppongi Hills to meet up with my friends. ?These are some friends who I haven’t seen in a long time, so it was great to see them. ?It didn’t hurt that I got to eat some great food too.
I like to meet with these friends for a different reason as well. ?They are all incredibly smart – much smarter than me. ?All of the Japanese people that were there speak excellent English, and all of the non-Japanese people speak excellent Japanese. ?It always reminds me that even though my Japanese isn’t bad, I still have a long way to go.
Well, at least that is usually the case.
Since I went to the restaurant right after work and I was already sick, I spent most of the time staring into space and trying not to fall asleep. ?I thankfully stayed awake long enough to get a picture of the event.
