A pint of ale in London!

Wednesday, July, 25, 2012

Hi there.

It’s Simon again. I just got back from England, the home of English! I had to go back to my home country last week.

It was the first time I’d been back since I came to Japan. ?That’s almost two and a half years. In some ways it was strange to be back, but it was also normal, and it still kinda feels like home.

The first thing I did when I got back was meet my brother and have a pint of Real Ale. It’s a type of beer that we drink in England that’s impossible to find in Japan. I’ve been wanting to drink it for two and a half years, so it was great to have when I got back. People who know me weren’t surprised to hear that the pub was the first place I went!

It was a good trip for me, although it was unfortunately for a funeral. I will be going again in August for a holiday, which will hopefully be fun, and a bit happier than my last visit!

Thanks for reading!

Hello and welcome

Wednesday, July, 18, 2012

Hi there.

My name’s Simon. I’ll be one of the teachers at Awesome English.

You can read a little about me on my profile, but I’ll introduce myself here as well.

I come from England, which is of course the home of the English language. I speak with a very neutral English accent (which really means no accent at all). Most students find it easy to understand my English, as it is very clear. However, if you’re particularly accustomed to American English, it may not be so easy!

Although I’m originally from a town called Bradford, I left there when I was only 4. From age 4 to 11, I lived outside England, on a small island called Guernsey. It’s a beautiful island, but not very fun for a young child to grow up, as there’s not so much to do. When I was 11, I moved back to England, to go to boarding school. A boarding school means you live at the school. I was at boarding school until I was 18, during which time I became interested in Japan.

I had the opportunity to study Japanese at school (it’s unusual to be able to study Japanese at school in England) from when I was 16. I really enjoyed the class, and wanted to come to Japan after I finished school. I did just that, for 6 months, and fell in love with Japan. I went back to England to study at university in London, and then came back to live in Japan after finishing at university. I have now been here for about 2 and a half years, and I’m sure I’ll stay for many more years to come.

I hope you’ll come to meet me at Awesome English, so we can get to know each other a little. Most importantly of course, I’m looking forward to helping you to improve your English skills.

See you!

Simon
