Another food-filled weekend!

Monday, June, 30, 2014

Hello everyone, this is Anand as always. ?I hope you guys have had a great week. ?I was sick for most of the week, but thankfully started feeling better on the weekend. ?I would say I am pretty much recovered and that my only real problem is being too busy. ?But I forced myself to relax this weekend in order to get better and as a result, I ended up getting better very quickly. ?And as always, I managed to track down another great restaurant with my French conversation group. ?I went to a place called “Ore no Yakitori”, located near Shimbashi. ?It has a jazzy feel with live music and great Japanese food. ?Surprisingly, the place served a lot more than just yakitori and we filled up on sashimi, foie gras, some other things I can’t begin to explain and a whole lot of other delicious foods. ? And of course, I ate lots of yakitori too. ?Thankfully my French is starting to slowly become better, although I am generally forced to rely on a few key phrases that I have down pat. ?I am going to keep studying, especially if the reward is a mountain of great food!

Until next time, here is one of the things I ate.

What could it possibly be?

More French Meetups

Monday, June, 23, 2014

Hello everyone! ?Anand here as usual. ?Looks like we are heading into the rainy season with rain coming all through the rest of the week. I hope you guys had your fun, because looks like it’s hot humid days from now on.

As always, I am doing my best to learn as much French as I can. ?I find it keeps me grounded and helps me remember what it is like to learn a language.

This week I joined another French meetup by Kamiyacho station. ?We went to a very popular Italian restaurant called 俺のイタリアン. ?It’s apparently very popular. ?I can definitely see why. ?The food was delicious and the portions were huge. ?In fact, I got to try foie gras for the first time ever. ?I can see why people eat it despite it being such a cruel food to make.

I also got to try lots of different meats and fish platters. ?For 4000 yen, it was definitely a deal. ?However, like I said the place is quite popular so expect to line up!

It was yet another great time where I got to practice lots of French. ?I highly recommend that you go out and find a group that offers an informal situation for you to practice all of the things you learn!

I missed you, Chiba!

Monday, June, 16, 2014

Hello everyone, Anand here as always. Summer is finally here judging by the heat. I must admit, I like warm days, but it is starting to get silly. ?It must be my Canadian nature. ?On the other hand, I spent most of my time either outside or on a train over the weekend. ?This weekend I made my long-awaited return to Chiba. ?I signed up for a half marathon in Kyonan-machi and decided to spent my weekend hanging out with my friends over in Katsuura. ?While this means that I have to spend hours on a train, it is a good chance to reconnect with my old life in small town Japan. ?I took the 3 hour train rain down to Kyonan and ran my race on Saturday. ?The Kyonan Hills half-marathon is not your average run. ?It features a ridiculous uphill run at the beginning of the race which never seems to end on top of the long distance. ?I finished with a decent time, but I was certainly fried by the end. ?Normally the smart thing to do would be to stretch and go home, but instead I immediately started drinking beer and went to Onjuku where I kept drinking with my friends. ?Then in the morning I did some more drinking and headed to Katsuura where I kept drinking more.

It was one of the best weekends I can remember, but what I can remember is spotty at best.

I think I am going to love this summer after all.

French Meetup!

Monday, June, 09, 2014

Hello there everyone, this is Anand as always. ?It seems like spring has made its way out and the rainy season is here. ?It was good while it lasted… Hope you all have your umbrellas!

While I have been busy at work, I have been trying to make the most of my weekends. ?I try my best to stay active both in mind and body. ?Of course, I work my mind by running all the time, but lately I have been picking up on my French. ?I like to study new languages, because in my opinion it makes me a better English teacher. ?I take lessons near Yokohama station every Thursday and I study uses various iPhone apps as well. ?However, this doesn’t substitute speaking with French people.

So I started using an app called Meetup and I found a group where Japanese people and French people get together to chat. ?This week we went to a French restaurant in Omotesando for a 3 course meal. ?That said, the food was great and I actually got to practice my French – not only with French people but with Japanese people as well. ?It was humbling to say the least, but also very rewarding. ?It reminded how much fun it is to learn a language and just how many connections you can make with just a few words.

And the best part about learning French? ?The French know how to find delicious food!

Mr. Dressup

Monday, June, 02, 2014

Hello everyone, this is Anand with another update for you! ?The perfect temperature of the spring is over and it looks like summer is starting to rear its ugly and overly hot head. ?Thankfully cold beer is in abundance and the heat is a good reason to drink it.

It’s been a while since I gave an update from the the preschool! ?Things have been pretty crazy here as always, but they are good fun as well. ?This week we are learning about getting ready. ?To start of the lesson, we are reviewing clothes and getting dressed. ?I always like to get involved so I like to let the kids dress me up. ?One day I let them put clothes on me, and another I let them take clothes off. ?The kids (and the staff) always get a good laugh out of me overheating. ?And to be honest, I get a kick out of it too.

I am going to try it again this year, but maybe I should let the woman teachers have a crack at it.

I am dying for the chance to laugh at them!

Until time, enjoy this picture of me!
