Fun times at Shonan Beach!
Monday, June, 24, 2013
Hello there everyone. ?Anand here for the update as always. ?Hope you guys are surviving this heat. ?In Canada we do tend to get pretty hot summers, but they never seem to reach the humidity they reach in Japan. ? Anyway, I definitely felt the heat this weekend as I got to explore a new part of Kanagawa. ?This Sunday I went running with some of my co-workers around along Shonan Beach. ?It was our company president, two of the child care workers and me all running on one of the hottest days of the year so far. ?What is nice, however, is that we got to use the company condo for the day. ?And man is it nice! ?So after checking the view for a few minutes we stretched and got to running! ?See, we are all running the Honolulu marathon next month. ?That means we have to train! ?But we are different levels. ?I have been training the longest, so the president insisted I run a full half marathon….by myself! ?I have run half marathons before…but the heat was silly…I was running at noon! ?But I did manage to get in 20 km before it was time to go. ?Not quite a half marathon, but good enough.
The nice thing is that after our boss treated us to some Red Lobster….and….beer!
Now sadly, I think he will be keeping a close eye one my training, but it was a great day all the same.
I guess I should run tonight. ?

Warrior Dash!
Monday, June, 17, 2013
Hi there everyone! ?Hope you enjoyed the week despite the awful weather. ?I had a great time with my friends as usual. ?And as always, it involved some sort of exercise. ?This week I joined a different kind of event. ?Usually I just join runs and the only real difference is the distance. ?But this time I joined the Warrior Dash, which has its origins in America. ?It’s only 5 kilometers, but while running you have to overcome a series of obstacles, most of which involve climbing, jumping or crawling. ?It was definitely different that your usual run! ?I was excited for it, because I rarely get the chance to move about in that sort of way. ?Thankfully I have some semi-athletic friends who wanted to run with me. ?We headed to Sagamiko where the race was held and took in the festivities. ?We were actually quite lucky in that it didn’t rain, but it was cool outside. ?To my surprise, upon running the course, I realized that it was quite easy! ?I had been expecting to barely be alive at the end, but me and my friends were all ready for more by the end. ?Thankfully we could quell our athletic drive with beer. ?Which is exactly what I did, heavily.

Father’s Day
Monday, June, 10, 2013
Father’s Day is coming up, and yet again I have to worry about what to get my father. ?When I was young it was easy. ?I just had to color a piece of paper and give it to him and he would be happy. ?Now I have to get him something that is actually nice. ?But the problem is that he still makes more money than me. ?And…well….he doesn’t really have any hobbies! ?I mean, how many more ties can I buy my dad before he hangs himself with one? ?Anyway, it’s even tougher in Japan. ?See he really likes to keep instruction manuals and warranties, so he generally doesn’t want electronics from Japan. ?It leaves me with a conundrum every year.
In a way, I envy the kids in our preschool. ?Their fathers will be happy with anything they get as long as it’s loosely related to Father’s Day. ?What’s more is that Dad is probably paying the preschool tuition, so in a sense they are paying for their own present. ?It’s nice to be three sometimes.
We’ve been getting ready for Father’s Day at Sunrise. ?We made a Sunrise Daddy. ?He looks…interesting. ?
Until next time,
Anand Mohan

Beach time!
Tuesday, June, 04, 2013
Hi everyone, Anand here with your Awesome English update as always! ?Hope you guys are enjoying yourselves. ?I am definitely enjoying the weather as it gets warmer and warmer. ?I may be a Canadian, but I am definitely not a fan of the cold.
Last weekend on only had one day off but I made the most of it. ?As always, I made a return to Chiba, but this time it was to somewhere new. ?I went off and enjoyed some of the best things about Chiba. ?Namely, good beaches and good friends. ?For the first time I went to Kujukuri beach. ?It’s the same distance from Yokohama as Katsuura, but it’s more north of where I used to live. ?English teachers are spread out all over Chiba, but for the most part the people in the JET Programme that I worked with are located in rural areas. ?This means that we don’t have many people to hang out with besides each other. ?As a result, we are all pretty close. ?That’s why I go back to Chiba so often really. ?That’s where my best friends are – both Japanese and foreigner.
So we had a barbecue in Kujukuri. ?It was a great time as always, with plenty of meat involved. ?I actually spent most of the time practicing cartwheels in the sand where I can’t hurt myself.
At the end however, someone had the grand idea to run in the water.
Let me tell you, it’s still too cold to go swimming.
But it was great anyway.
Until next time,
Anand
