Hello everyone, this is Anand with another Awesome English update. Unfortunately the time has come when I have to start using my heater to the sadness of my sinuses and my electric bill. Even in Japan I can’t escape the cool air of November. Speaking of November, there is a popular custom that several western countries take part in this time of the month. We call it Movember. It’s a portmanteau of “moustache” and “November”. During this month men grow out their moustaches, no matter how inadequate a moustache they can grow. Why do they do such a ridiculous thing? Well in theory most men grow them to raise cancer awareness and to promote men’s health. In fact Canada makes the most Movember contributions to prostate cancer groups than any other nation. However, I think at this point it is just a reason for guys to grow what is usually considered to be an outdated form of facial hair and not get ridiculed for it. But whatever one thinks of the morals behind such a thing, it is actually kind of fun. I used to participate in these events until I found out the no-moustache company rule. Sad, but there are enough moustache/bearded pics of me to last a lifetime. Enjoy one of my best!

Post-race tan tan men!

Monday, November, 17, 2014

Hello everyone, this is Anand with another Awesome English update. ?As you probably know, I go back to my old home of Katsuura pretty often. ?It’s pretty far and I was only there for three years, but in that time I made many great friends and had a lot of good experiences. ?One thing I make sure I do every year is to participate in the Katsuura Naruka Road race. ?It features a half marathon and a 10 kilometre race. ? I started out doing the 10 k, but recently I have moved up to the half marathon. ?It’s good prep for the full marathon coming up in two weeks. ?In any case, this race is special to me in the I get to see several of my old students and they like to cheer me on. ?The main reason for this is that I like to do this run in some kind of ridiculous costume. ?One year I ran as Mario, another year I ran as a panda. This year I ran as Vegita, from Dragon Ball. ?This always results in me getting incredibly tired as a result of wearing too much gear, but it is balanced out by the enjoyment of getting lots of cheers from the spectators. ?Needless to say I didn’t win, but I treated myself to a proper prize. ?Katsuura is well-known for its tantanmen, which is made with plenty of spice and is known for its heat. ?It won the silver prize in the All-Japan Grand Prix for ramen! ?All I know is that whenever I need a reminder of my life in Katsuura, I can always eat it for a boost.

Anyway, I guess I have to start thinking about next year!

Party like it’s 1999!

Monday, November, 10, 2014

Hello everyone, this is Anand again with the Awesome English news! ?I had to take my jacket out of the closet as it is starting to get colder and colder with each passing day. ?Winter, my least favorite of seasons, is finally here. ?However, not is all lost in this city that is getting colder and colder, because it is still warm enough to go out for a run! ?I will run a half-marathon next week and a full marathon on the 30th. ?I will also run a full marathon in Honolulu come November! ?I took a look at my running app on my phone and made a realization – I am one kilometer away from 2000 kilometers run. ?It’s hard to believe that just a few years ago I could barely finish running one kilometer. ?Running has slowly become a big part of my life, and an important part as well. ?It helps me when I am in a bad mood because I usually run until I am too tired to feel either happy or sad. ?Whether I will run up to 3000 k is not a question worth asking – of course I will. ?The real question is whether I will run faster or farther.

See you at 3000.

Happy Halloween!!

Monday, November, 03, 2014

Hello everyone, this is Anand here with another Awesome English update! I hope you all had a Happy Halloween!! I couldn’t really do anything this year as a result of trying to save money and general illness, but I still had a good time thanks to a wonderful Halloween party at our preschool. Not only did I get to see a lot of cute kid costumes, I got to wear not one, but two costumes. In the morning I was a skeleton and in the afternoon I got to dress up a Vegita from Dragonball Z. We made a haunted house for the kids and then went trick or treating in the park. It was lots of fun and I think the kids enjoyed it almost as much as I did. In any case, I am looking forward to another fine Halloween next year!
