Halloween at work!

Monday, October, 28, 2013

Hello everyone! ?It’s that special time of the year again! ?Halloween is coming! ?After Christmas this is probably the biggest day of the year for any kid. The sheer concept of free candy is almost as mind blowing as all the sugar contained in said candy. ?As many of you may know, I spend a lot of my time working at Sunrise Kids, my company’s international preschool as well as Awesome English. ?As a result, I am in the full swing of getting things ready for our own little Halloween party. ?One of the things we are getting ready is our very own haunted house. ?I have been putting a lot of extra hours and a lot of love into this thing and it is turning out to be pretty good indeed. ?It’s a tricky thing to make a haunted house for a preschool. ?I know some of you like getting scared, but it hard to make a haunted house that is just scary enough to be “haunted”, but not scary enough to make kids wet themselves. ?That said, my staff and I have all been working very hard and I am sure things are going to work out well….I am pretty sure. ?I am mostly sure……..Oh man please let everything work out well…..

In any case, here is one of the things I made. ?It’s a dancing skeleton!

Onsen Time!

Monday, October, 21, 2013

Hi there everyone! ?Hope you are all having a good time doing whatever it is you do. ?The crazy weather doesn’t seem to want to stop, doesn’t it? ?I don’t mind the fact that it is getting colder, but I am sick of getting my shoes soaked through! ?In any case, I am enjoying my time now that I get the weekends off. ?This week I finally had a weekend where I didn’t have to run! ?I tried to make the most of it. ?I went to Odaiba with my friends for a birthday party. ?We went to this nice Mexican restaurant called Zest Cantina. ?I spent a lot of money, but I had a good time eating some of my favorite kinds of food. ?Next we all headed to a big onsen called Oedo Monogatari. ?Have you ever heard of it? ?Well, when I say we went to an onsen, I mean all of us but one. ?One of the people in our group was turned down for entry because of all of her tattoos. ?It’s a silly rule and usually we would try and plead ignorance, but there were too many signs in English for us to do so. ?It was a shame she couldn’t enter, but we all had a great time anyway. ?We played board games and card games all through the night…and of course we sat in the hot tubs! ?And in the end, it wasn’t all that pricey! ?All in all, it was a good night.

I definitely recommend it if you have the time!

See you later!

Halloween Costumes

Monday, October, 14, 2013

Looks like Halloween is coming up soon, and it is time to start thinking about a costume. ?I mean, this year I guess I have to think harder than usual, since now wearing a costume is part of my job! ?I’ve always liked Halloween. ?It’s a good chance for me to be silly and have a good time with my friends. ?But it’s the costuming that I enjoy the most, now that I don’t go trick or treating. ?I have worn some pretty neat costumes in my time, actually. ?When I first came to Japan, I dressed up as Michael Jackson. ?This, of course was before he died, so I like to think I was being somewhat original. ?After that, I took advantage of my ability to grow a mustache and did my rounds as Mario. ?My students definitely loved that choice. ?And the year after I decided to wear a panda costume that I found at a second hand store. ?It was a giant and hot item, but it was even more popular than Mario.

This year I have to choose another costume…what shall I be? ?Thankfully costumes are much easier to find here.

How about this idea? ?I think it suits me well…

Wedding Time

Monday, October, 07, 2013

Hello everyone! ?My weekends continue to be exciting…and at this point potentially crazy. ?This weekend was a reunion of a different kind – a wedding party. ?My good friend from Isumi finally had a wedding ceremony for his wife and all of my friends from Chiba were there. ?There was also a lot of alcohol and food, and I decided to put most of it into me. ?Needless to say it was a good time. ?I never get to wear a suit in public now that I spend most of my days in preschool. ?It is nice to dress up from time to time, you know?

So there is nothing really crazy about a wedding, even if you stay out a little late, right? ?Well I decided to push a little further and after three hours of sleep I woke up and ran a half marathon.

And…do you know what the funny thing is? ?I ran faster than I ever have!

So here is the lesson students. ?Don’t train or sleep before the big day…but make sure you drink a lot.

I guess life is pretty good.
