Typhoon time!
Monday, October, 06, 2014
Hello everyone! ?Anand here hoping you have your umbrellas ready! ?I hope that you guys are lucky enough to not have to work today. ?As you can probably guess, I am busy at the office…although I will say that I am glad to be here because for once I might be able to get some reports and paperwork done. ?I guess that is how things are when you are working on a salary – there is never enough time to get what you want done. ?In any case, I am never more glad to live near my work than when the typhoon hits. ?I feel very sorry for all the people who have to take trains in times like these. ?If you are at work, you are likely one of them…
I remember when I first came to Japan how worried I was over typhoons. ?Our image of them in North America is one of brutal strength – something that will destroy cities and topple our capitals. ?And, while there are certainly typhoons that do such things, the majority of them are just a major inconvenience to me. ?On the other hand, I always shake my head at those people who think typhoon time is time to go surfing. ?We ought to respect nature, of course because it can swallow us, melt us, sicken us or worse should it want to.
But on today, like most typhoon days I am happy to be inside, watching.
One of my young students made a typhoon map. ?Apparently Canada has 7 giant typhoons in it at once. Stay safe!
Until next time,
Anand Mohan
