-ing vs -ed and nuance

Wednesday, June, 08, 2016

Greetings and what a sunny day it is indeed. It is time for another post for the week.

Well, using words as adjectives is a tricky matter that is something people need to master in order to speak better. I came across a sign that said “Excited price”… While the usage is technically correct, the idea is wrong. The correct answer is “exciting”. Words ending with -ed mean a personal feeling that the subject feels (e.g. I am tired). Whereas -ing means a feeling that others feel as a result (e.g. My job is tiring).

I am tired = my feeling
My job is tiring = a feeling from my job

Anyway, this is the conclusion concluding the post of the week. As always, the difficult words have been emphasized in a way that appears just like this. That is the end of this chapter.
